It is critical that commercial drivers know – and avoid – the five violations that the FMCSA has described as critical, and for which the USDOT assigns 6 points and a speeded-up track to suspension of a CDL license:
(1) Speeding more than 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit
(2) Reckless driving
(3) Improper or erratic lane change
(4) Following too closely
(5) Any violation in connection with a fatality accident
Copies of all tickets, citations, roadside inspections must be delivered to the safety department per. Part 383.31 of the Code of Federal Violations: this is because the carrier to whom you have contracted must review the safety performance of every driver it contracts as an ongoing process which includes examination of all citations, crashes, inspections.
