The USDOT has recently advised us that we can only reduce our CSA scores in the hours of service basic by ruthlessly enforcing these policies.
To this end, the safety department will be assuring that all drivers know and understand the rules as well as obey them. As in most things, 80% of contract drivers log and meet hours of service regulations almost perfectly. The safety department will be invisible to them – except for our role in making sure their $50 checks for perfect roadsides are mailed to them together with congratulations.
If you are in the other 20%, get ready to get to know log and safety people, for you are the target of new, ruthless enforcement programs; by year end we will all be proud of your logs. 10, 11, 14, and 70 hour rules, the 34 hour restart, the travel exemption, the mandated 30 minute break: you will master all of them in the new enforcement program.
