Driving is a divided attention activity; you are watching dials, the road ahead and to the sides; you may be reacting to an incoming phone call; you may be digging around to locate your sun glasses; you may be distracted by kids at play on an adjoining playground; you may be reaching for your water bottle.
Remember that at 60 mph you are traveling roughly 90 feet per. second. If you take your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel for roughly 4 seconds to interact with a distraction like your cell phone, you will have traveled the length of a football field ( including both end zones) without looking at the road.
During that 360 feet you were in only partial control of the vehicle.
Avoid distractions. One of the lives you save may be your own.
